Dead Heading

‘Dead Heading’ was a piece of sculpture that Aileen created by putting perfectly healthy flowers in full bloom that she had uprooted, bulbs and all. Each day, she squeezed the presses tighter and photographed the plants as they withered and died. In the essay that accompanied the exhibition she wrote: ‘We are uncomfortable looking death in the eye. We are even more uncomfortable looking at something beautiful dying.’
